As you guys know, I'm a role-player at AaaB, a board for Brother Bear. BB (as it's often abbreviated to) the 2003 Disney movie about a man at the end of the Ice Age who kills a bear in revenge for the death of his brother and is turned into a bear by the spiurit of the Aurora Borealas. He reluctantly befriends a bear cub and learns to see through the bear's eyes. The role-plays usually follow the setting, although they are filled with original characters ranging from bears, wolves, thunderbirds, wolverines, and even some dinosaurs. ^^
Now another of my favorite series is the Ratha and the Named series, a book series about prehistoric cats by Clare Bell. In it, the descendents of Dinaelurus crassus (a cheetah-ancestor), Dinaelurus illumina sapiens (or the Named, as they call themselves), have evolved to the point where they speak, live in a Clan and have domesticated the Prehistoric horses and three-horned deer. Yet they are still animals- they have no tools, can build walls poorly and with pain, dig dens to bear their cubs and never think of selectively breeding their animals to get more meat. The Named's rival is another 'Clan,' the Un-Named, a group of cats that, although they look identical to the Named and in fact can produce fertile offspring with them, lack the Named's intelligence. The protagonist is a yearling female named Ratha, niece of the current leader Meoran.
So, I wondered if one of the Named would ever appear in one of the Brother Bear role-plays. Of course, Ratha is set 20 million years ago while BB takes place at the end of the Ice Ages when most of the modern animals had evolved but when a man could have descriped a time of his youth in the time "when the great mammoths still roamed our land" about, eh accroding to this site

Given that, it'd be kinda hard to picture Ratha herself interacting with the characters set up around BB (unless she found Shongshar's DeLorean* eh? XP). But I wonder if anyone will have one of the Named's descendants appear, perhaps still with their Dapplebacks and Three-horns herds and their power of fire. After all, dinosaurs had been long gone but three members (including myself) play also some dinosaurs whose ancestors survived the extinction. After all, the original BB is about a guy turned into a bear- methinks some poetic license can be granted.
Another problem of course is that, since BB's a Disney movie, all of the animals speak and have human-like expressions. In Ratha, only the Named are able to speak and think like humans, while the Un-Named, dapplebacks and three-horns are normal beasts. It'd be kinda hard to mix them; although one could argue that the BB original characters speak 'beast-language' while the Named would speak the humans' language, fit into the human 'niche' and are more advanced than the other beasts.
At any rate, maybe someday they'll be a Named cat among the varied creatures at the baords. I'd like that.
* In one of Clare Bell's blogs, she talks about what species the wicked sabre-fanged Shongshar is, commenting that he can't be a Smilodon since they evolved years later and mentioning he really is. She then jokingly suggests that perhaps he was a smilodon that travelled through time. Since I love the Back to the Future movies, the image of Shongshar driving a DeLorean greatly amuses me.
I've rambled on quite a bit, haven't I? ^^" Well to fill out the rest of the space, I think I'll add who watches me and who I watch- haven't done that in a while.
